Applications are now being accepted for the Canada 2025–2026 International Affairs Fellowship. Established in 2016, the Power Corporation of Canada-sponsored International Affairs Fellowship (IAF) aims to foster collaboration and mutual understanding between the developing leadership and intellectual communities in the US and Canada.
Mid-career American professionals can spend between six and twelve months at a Canadian university to enhance their knowledge of Canada through this transformative program. Applications are welcome from anyone working in educational institutions, business, government, media, non-governmental organizations, and research organizations. It’s not necessary to have prior writing or professional experience in Canada.
Stipends
The program provides a small travel allowance in addition to a stipend of $110,000 for a duration of twelve months (or a proportionate amount if the duration is less). Fellows are not regarded as CFR employees; instead, they are independent contractors and are not entitled to benefits associated with their work, such as health insurance. The stipend cannot be used to offset any direct expenses.
Eligibility
- – Only citizens of the United States can apply.
- – Only professionals in their mid-career are required to apply.
- – Candidates need to have a solid track record of accomplishment in the workplace.
- – Candidates must be interested in U.S.-Canada relations and have a track record of dedication to a career in foreign policy.
- – Candidates must be at least bachelor’s degree holders.
- – Applicants must possess a U.S. passport that is still valid 6 months after the fellowship deadline are required of all applicants.
Selection Criteria
The following standards are used in Canada to determine who gets to be an IAF:
- – Academic credentials and/or professional background
- – The benefits and viability of a study proposal regarding a particular facet of ties between the United States and Canada.
- – Personal traits and character traits that foster collaboration and communication across cultural boundaries.
- – The fellowship will help the applicant advance their professional goals.
The choosing procedure is rigorous. Every year, CFR grants one or two fellowships. Candidates who have never been awarded a CFR fellowship are highly preferred.
