The Youth Advisory Board at Plan International USA is currently accepting applications. Plan International USA’s Youth Advisory Board is a varied coalition of young American leaders that support and direct Plan’s operations. Plan International USA is aware that until young activists are given a voice and the ability to significantly influence decision-making, real change for youth worldwide will not materialize. 

Being a member of YAB, they work with leaders at Plan and other organizations to make sure that the needs, voices, and ideas of young people are taken into account when developing policies and initiatives that have an impact on their life. Young people with a variety of experiences—including those involving various abilities, ethnicities, faiths, and gender identities—are encouraged to apply. 

Job Responsibilities 

– Participate in the development of Plan’s youth-oriented domestic programming and advocacy initiatives. 

– Assist with the campaign and youth engagement initiatives’ implementation. 

– Collaborate with the board of directors and internal teams at Plan to incorporate the voices and viewpoints of young people into various initiatives. 

– Take part in the twice-yearly in-person retreats and required monthly internet meetings. 

– Take part in lobbying efforts against legislators and large companies. 

– Participate in the Youth Leadership Academy (YLA) as a mentor to participants and co-design the program. 

Cost of Program 

Plan arranges and pays for all necessary travel for members of the Youth Advisory Board. 

Program Eligibility 

Any applicant for the program must: 

– be a young person, ages 14 to 22, who resides in the United States. 

– speak English fluently. 

– be passionate about youth-led advocacy, global challenges, and gender equality. 

– be able to participate in remote meetings by having frequent access to a computer and the internet. 

– have the ability to visit seminars in person and have an impact on events in the United States. 

Commitments 

– Have the ability and desire to devote at least six hours a week to board activities. 

– Work there for two years at least. 

– Participate in the required virtual meetings every month, which are usually held in the evening on Eastern Standard/Daylight Time. 

– Take part in project committees and do the tasks given to you. 

– Take part in lobbying campaigns with corporate executives and the US Congress. 

– Support Plan campaigns and projects. 

– Participate in the required biannual in-person retreats. 

– Fulfill all requirements outlined in the YAB rules.
