The Legal Aid Forum Rwanda (LAF) is currently accepting applications for its 2024 environmental journalism training program. The Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development in Germany has partnered with the Legal Aid Forum Rwanda (LAF) and Thomson Media to offer an Environmental Journalism Training Program for accredited Rwandan journalists working in Rwanda.
The initiative aims to provide local journalists with the necessary tools and legal assistance so they can cover environmental crimes, the green economy, climate change, and sustainable adaptation. Enroll in their Environmental Journalism Training Program to learn the fundamentals of reporting, handle any legal issues that may arise, and get professional legal assistance for the duration of your project.
Program Benefits
– Gaining practical experience in environmental reporting and mastering its legal challenges is the aim.
– You will receive instruction from professionals in the field.
– Through interactive seminars, you get the opportunity to learn directly from environmental journalists and legal specialists.
– After fulfilling the requirements, you will be awarded a production grant. Twelve out of the fifteen selected applications will get RWF 2,000,000 in production support to aid in the creation of their story. Six installments of production support will be paid out during the story’s development.
– You will learn about media laws and obtain free legal help from experienced attorneys.
Program Eligibility
– Open to both paid and independent journalists.
– Journalists who work in print, online, radio, or television are encouraged to apply.
– Journalists should work for national or international media outlets and must be situated in Rwanda.
– To participate, journalists employed by news organizations must have their editor’s permission. It is imperative for freelancers to convey confidence that a media outlet is open to accepting their work.
– A letter from your editor approving your participation and stating that they will publish any stories you produce through the program must be submitted. Your editor’s letter must be signed and printed on an official letterhead. A recommendation letter from their editor is also required for freelancers in order for their story to be published. This implies that having ties to a media outlet is crucial.
How to Apply
You can upload your documents, which are as follows:
– A 250-word article outlining the environmental or climatic topic you wish to examine during the program; this can be done after completing at least two of the three offered courses.
– A brief CV and a personal statement outlining your motivation for applying to the program, as well as any relevant academic or professional experience.
– A recommendation letter from your editor, along with an assurance that your piece will be published once the program is over.
– A duplicate of your current press pass.
